Dean For America, New York State writes:
Via forwarded e-mail, Mon 02/02/04
If your computer can play this
video...it's a must--it shows what REALLY happened
when Governor Dean made his post-caucus speech in Iowa, ridiculed
as "The Dean Scream." Wait till you see the footage shot
at that same moment by a documentary filmmaker that includes both
a visual and the actual sound of the crowd--no one could even hear
a word Dean said. He was trying to shout, which came out as a screech
because he had a hoarse throat and he couldn't even hear HIMSELF.
It turns out that the microphone he was holding fed directly into
the TV sound, but purposely filtered out the actual sound context
in the room. ABC for one apologized profusely, but after that speech
was re-played 700 times (!) by various media outlets, the apology
is probably equal to the sound of a pin dropping in the woods

Marie Scott, 77 years old, is mad as hell. Here's
what Bush's supposedly great Medicare bill, co-authored by insurance
company representatives, entails:
*It won't become law until 2006, because the Republican Congress
that passed it don't want people to examine it until after the 2004
elections.
*It imposes $420 in yearly premiums.
*It bill prevents the government from negotiating lower drug costs
(even though countries like Canada, Mexico and Sweden do.)

Okay,
here's
some fun political satire (albeit partisan). It's
worth seeing if you don't mind a bit of South Park-esque
language. (There's a Salon.com
article about GOP reaction to the "ad.")

Mark
Shields, of The News Hour and CNN talking head fame, writes in "Democrats
owe a debt to Dean":
[Dean's] opponents for the Democratic nomination are indebted
to Howard Dean for making them better and sharper candidates.
Dr.
Dean nearly performed a vertebrae transplant on his rivals, with
challenges like, "Most importantly, I want my party to stand
up for what we believe in again," and, "The deal I'm going
to make you is this: If you make me the Democratic nominee, I'll
make you proud to be Democrats again," and, "If you're
going to defend the president's tax cuts and if you're going to
defend the president's war, I frankly don't think we can beat George
Bush by being Bush Lite."
For millions of Democrats dispirited by their party's fear in the
2002 campaign at being branded by Bush as "soft on terrorism,"
Howard Dean gave them hope that they were not alone. It was Dean,
according to my notes, who condemned "companies (that) are
leaving the country to avoid paying taxes or to avoid paying people
livable wages.

Dean's
"I have a scream" speech
by

- Thr 01/29/04; 8:44 pm EST
I
got an e-mail from a reader suggesting that maybe the REAL reasons
Dean screamed are the same ones that should have us all screaming:
*the 2 million unemployed workers.
*the 500+ U.S. soldiers dead.
*the 10,000 U.S. soldiers who have been evacuated from Iraq for
wounds, sickness or mental distress.
*the lose of Americas credibility abroad.
*the two trillion dollar deficit.
*the $7 Billion that is missing from the No Child Left Behind Bill.
*the Clear Skies Initiative that allows more polution
into the air.
*the 41,000,000 people in this country who go to bed without healthcare.
*the $120 million Bush has collected in special interest money.
*the hope that is slipping out of our democratic system.

Dean gives great NH Primary night speech
by
IseFire
- Tues 01/27/04; 11:17 pm EST
Kerry's
speech was unimpressive; Edwards' was mostly lost between networks
shuffling back and forth between speeches; Dean's was damn good
(best of the night) and monopolized the network for many, many minutes
with a hugely enthusiastic crowd; Clark's grabbed key CNN time with
which he introduced himself to America. C-SPAN showed Clark's speech
in full at about 10:30, and it was undeniably better than Kerry's.
I finally heard more of Edwards' via CSPAN's broadcast of WMUR-TV,
Manchester, NH. It was more polished than Clark's in delivery, but
lacking substance. (Is Edwards emerging as just the feel-good candidate?)
Lieberman's speech was delusional; he thinks he can actually
win. (I recommend, Joe, that you drop out now.)
P.S. on Clark's coverage: Someone (in Little Rock?) knows what they're
doing. Clark was the only candidate with people of color behind
him within the camera shot.
